Agri matchmaking in the Thane–Raigad coastal belt

The Agri (Agari) community is native to the coastal belt from Bhiwandi and Kalyan down through Thane, Navi Mumbai, Panvel and Uran to Alibaug and Pen, and most families still marry within a short radius of their village. The community's koliwadas and gaothans in Navi Mumbai and Panvel have become urban, but the search is still village-first: a family from Kharghar or Belapur will tell you their gaon before their sector, and our Agri profiles record the native place alongside the current locality.

Land acquired for Navi Mumbai, JNPT and the airport has made many Agri families landowning and business households — construction, transport, salt pans, real estate — and questions about land and business are asked openly and early. The Sulabh Vivah profile records family status, 'employed in' and the parents' occupations, and families say in the 'About family' section whether the son is expected to stay in the gaothan and manage the family property.

The Agri community has its own sub-groups — Shuddha Agri, Das Agri, Varap Agri — that families check before a match, and its own festivals: the Gauri-Ganpati celebrations, the Agri Mahotsav and the Holi season are when most families begin a search. Weddings cluster in the winter and around Holi, and are famously large, so the number of brothers and sisters — a field on every profile — is something Agri families actually read.
